TOUR INFORMATION
Featuring modest daily mileages and multi-night stopovers, this tour offers a relaxed pace throughout. Only the final day involves higher mileage as you transit back to Calais for the Eurotunnel, making it an accessible and enjoyable choice for riders of all experience levels. Whether you are a seasoned continental tourist or embarking on your first European tour, the balanced mix of quiet rural roads and mountain passes ensures comfortable daily riding hours.
The itinerary utilizes the Eurotunnel crossing for a fast and efficient transit from Folkestone to Calais. Alternative ferry crossings—such as Hull to Rotterdam—can be arranged upon request to suit your travel preferences (please note that selecting a North Sea ferry route will require an additional deposit).
TOUR ITINERAY
Day 1: 225 miles
Your tour begins with an early morning Eurotunnel crossing from Folkestone to Calais. Upon arrival in France, you take to quiet back roads, riding through traditional northern French villages and open countryside. Your destination for the evening is the historic town of Bouillon, situated on the French-Belgian border. Bisected by the Semois River and overlooked by the medieval Castle of Godefroy, Bouillon provides an ideal setting for your opening night.
Day 2: 195 miles
Leaving Bouillon behind, you stick to quiet rural roads as you ride through the peaceful Forest of Orval. Passing through picturesque countryside, the landscape becomes increasingly forested as you enter the Vosges Mountains of eastern France. En route, you have the opportunity to visit the Douaumont Ossuary (Ossuaire de Douaumont) near Verdun, a moving memorial housing the remains of over 130,000 soldiers from WWI. Continuing south, you arrive at Lake Gérardmer. Your hotel for the next two nights is located in Gérardmer town centre, less than 300 metres from the lake.
Day 3: Ride or Rest Day (Optional Routes: 107 or 150 miles)
The Vosges Mountains offer some of the finest riding roads in France, most notably the famous Route des Crêtes. Following the main ridge of the Vosges range, this scenic road takes in the highest peak in the region, the Grand Ballon (1,423 metres), where you can stop for lunch with sweeping views extending toward the Alps on a clear day. The route also takes in the Col de la Schlucht. Two optional circular routes are provided, allowing you to choose between a 107-mile loop or a fuller 150-mile ride.
Day 4: 170 miles
Today’s route crosses the Rhine Valley into Germany's Black Forest. Passing the Feldberg—which at 1,493 metres is the highest peak in Germany outside the Alps—you can stop for lunch at Lake Titisee before continuing to your traditional hotel deep in the forest.
(Note: Depending on availability, accommodation is located in either a quiet village or a small town. Our small-town location offers a greater selection of local restaurants and bars within walking distance; please let us know if you have a location preference when booking).
Day 5: Ride or Rest Day (Optional Route: 160 miles)
Today is a ride or rest day in the Black Forest. Our suggested route takes in sections of the famous B500, known for its smooth tarmac and sweeping curves, as well as several lesser-known forest passes. Along the way, you can visit the historic spa town of Baden-Baden and stop at Schonach, home to the world’s largest working cuckoo clock. Alternatively, you can spend the day relaxing at the hotel or exploring the local area.
Day 6: 210 miles
Heading north, you ride through the quiet, heavily forested landscapes of the Pfälzerwald and Saar-Hunsrück nature parks. A favorite with local motorcyclists, these quiet roads offer excellent riding through dense woodland. Your destination is a traditional family-run hotel set in the Moselle-Saar-Ruwer wine region of Germany.
Day 7: 290 miles
Your final leg leads cross-country through the quiet hills of Luxembourg before joining the autoroute system through Belgium towards Calais for your afternoon Eurotunnel crossing back to Folkestone. (Eurotunnel departure times are flexible and can be adjusted to suit your individual travel plans).
