DOLOMITES - SLOVENIA - TUSCANY

DOLOMITES : SLOVENIAN ALPS : TUSCANY 2024

Close your eyes and think of Italy and you will picture Tuscany. The climate, the people and the wine more than anywhere else are all so typically Italian. It is no coincidence that Ducati, Aprilia and MV motorcycles are all designed and built here.

TOUR INFORMATION

This tour does contain some reasonably high mileage days and some challenging roads in the Mountains. Therefore this tour would be suitable for riders who are used to covering long distances and understand and accept the above. Although some of the days are quite long we stop at four of the destinations for more than one night so there is ample opportunity to rest and relax along the way.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1: 251 Miles

Following an early morning Euro tunnel crossing you begin your day by quickly passing the industrial region of France. Clear of the motorway system you begin to enjoy some fabulous rural roads as you first enter the Avesnois regional park before crossing the border into Belgium. Your route then takes you through the Ardennes national park as you first follow the Meuse and then Semois rivers to your first overnight stay in the town of Bastogne.

Day 2: 270 Miles
Today you continue through the Pfalzer and Saar Hunsruck National Parks. These parks are probably one of Germany’s best kept secrets as the almost traffic free roads twist and turn through the forest, it is little wonder that this area is such a favourite with local bikers.

Day 3: 260 Miles
Mixing rural roads and Autoroutes you arrive in Austria and the Timmelsjoch Pass. This spectacular pass rises to over 2500 meters and joins the impressive glaciers of the Oetz Valley with the Passeier Valley vineyards of Italy. Your destination today is the magnificent Dolomite Mountains which are characterised by their flat-crested vertically monolithic appearance. Your hotel for the next three nights is one of the most popular biker hotels in the area and has now become our main base when visiting the Dolomites. Here you will enjoy Italian style cooking in a fabulous family owned hotel with indoor swimming pool, steam room and sauna.

Day 4: 87 Miles
The supplied ride out today includes some of the main passes in the area including the brilliant Passo San Pellegrino, Passo Valles, Passo Rolle and more.

Day 5: 195 Miles

A fantastic days riding lies ahead as you leave the Dolomites behind and head for the Triglavski National Park in Slovenia. The park is named after the highest mountain in Slovenia, Mount Triglav, which rises to an elevation of over 2860 metres.

Situated only 500 yards from the clear blue waters of Lake Bohinj your hotel for the next two nights is surrounded by impressive mountains and alpine forests.

Day 6: 130 Miles
The included ride-out today takes you on a circular route around the Julian Alps and to the challenging pass at Kranjska Gora with its 24 cobbled hairpin bends. If you prefer to relax you will find lots of activities around the hotel such as a walk to the Mostnica Gorge or visit Devils Bridge. Other suggestions would be a journey on the cable car to the top of Mount Vogel for some incredible views of the lake and the Julian Alps.

Day 7: 145 Miles
Today is a relatively short riding day as you head out of the mountains and join the Italian Autoroute system to your hotel on the outskirts of Venice. En-route you make a stop to visit the worlds largest cave castle at Predjama. Set within its own gardens your hotel is a converted 16th century mansion house complete with outdoor swimming pool and a fabulous restaurant. Venice is the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region and was orginally built on more than 100 small islands. It has no roads, just canals including the Grand Canal which runs through the heart of the city.  The canal is lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces and at its centre the Piazza San Marco contains St. Mark’s Basilica and the Campanile bell tower.

Day 8:
Today there is no ride-out supplied leaving you free to visit Venice which is only a short train or taxi ride away or alternately choose your own individual itinerary.

Day 9: 200 Miles
After a few miles on the Autoroute you pass Bologna before continuing south towards Florence and the fabulous Sp65. This superb road is used by Ducati when testing their latest model. Crossing into Tuscany you ride through the stunning Chianti countryside to the city of Siena. This unique Italian city is steeped in history and with the Piazza del Campo at its heart it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany.

Day 10: 130 Miles
The supplied ride-out today takes you deep into the rolling Tuscan countryside and to the hilltop town of Montepulciano.

Day 11: 190 Miles
Leaving Siena behind you again take to the long sweeping roads and spectacular scenery which is so typical of this region of Italy. You quickly make your way across country to Pisa and its famous leaning tower where you will have ample time to take photos, buy souvenirs and explore the tower and cathedral. From here you take the twisty SS62 to your luxury 5 star hotel on the outskirts of Dello Stirone Regional Park.

Day 12: 300 Miles
Although today is mainly Autoroute the landscape becomes increasingly mountainous as you continue your journey towards the towering peaks of the French Alps. Following your journey through the Mont-Blanc tunnel you arrive at the lakeside town of Annecy. This once medieval prison town is now one of the most popular resorts in France with a warren of back streets and passages just waiting to be explored.

Day 13: 293 Miles
Your day starts as you ride into the Franche comté region which is acclaimed for its rolling fields, dense forests and of course the Jura Mountains. You are now in real biking country and the route takes you through the sweeping roads of the Jura and into Burgundy. Continuing north you finally enter the champagne region of France before arriving at your final hotel which is located in the medieval city of Troyes.

Day 14: 230 Miles
Following breakfast you take a leisurely route through the Champagne vineyards before joining the motorway system to Calais and your afternoon Euro tunnel crossing to Folkestone. Euro Tunnel times are flexible and can be changed to suit individual requirements.

"If your thinking of going any were in Europe next year with a tour company, take my word, you will not find a better company, the hotels are first class, with good food and amenities, and the route they take are amazing, It is owned and run by Tom and Susan, who organise and lead the tour. Roll on next year, can’t wait for the next one"
