TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1: Saturday 23rd June

Mileage: 386 from Calais - 341 from Zeebrugge

The tour starts as you exit the Euro tunnel at Calais or the Ferry port at Zeebrugge and join the French or Belgium motorway systems. Located just a few minutes from the motorway our friendly family run hotel is the perfect place to unwind after your first day. If required we can book the Euro tunnel a day earlier enabling you to extend your holiday and also half the first day’s mileage.

Day 2: Sunday 24th June - 247 Miles

Finally free of the motorway system we cross the Rhine River and enter the Black Forest of Germany. Our route takes us down a section of the B500 which is probably one of the most famous biking roads in Europe. Leaving the forest behind the alpine peaks now beckon and we enter Austria via the 5 mile long Pfänder Tunnel and the Arlbergpass. Our luxury four star hotel features an indoor swimming and outdoor rooftop pool, sauna, steam bath and relaxation area.

Day 3: Monday 25th June - 159 Miles

The Austrian Alps are a place of incredible natural beauty with outstanding biking routes in every direction. Numerous ride-outs are supplied in your tour pack including the Stelvio, Kaunertal Glacier, Hahntennjoch and Bielerhöhe for you to compile your own itinerary if required but we will select just two for our organised ride-outs. We will make the decision which ride-outs to select based on local weather conditions at the time.

If you prefer to take a break from the bike you could always ride the spectacular Alpine Coaster in nearby Imst, visit Innsbruck or take the cable car to the top of the mountain. With so many excellent passes to ride and places to visit plus an outstanding hotel with top-class facilities you will probably be spoilt for choice.

Day 4: Tuesday 26th June

Today we will be organising a shorter ride-out which will be decided on tour.

Day 5: Wednesday 27th June - 209 Miles

Today we leave Austria behind as we cross the fantastic Timmelsjoch pass which rises to over 2510 meters. This “secret gap” as it was called joins the impressive glaciers of the Oetz Valley in Austria with the Passeier Valley vineyards of Italy.

The road signs and the landscapes now begin to change as we continue south to our next destination, Lake Garda. The lake was formed by the glaciers at the end of the ice age and is the largest lake in Italy. Its shores are dotted with numerous small villages and the surrounding mountains are just waiting to be explored. Our hotel is located on a small harbour and sits within a few metres of the Lake side. From here you have the choice to visit the multitude of small villages, catch a boat across the lake or take a trip to Venice or Verona.

Day 6: Thursday 28th June - 103 Miles

Our organised ride-out today takes us into the surrounding mountains and to the Bocca Navene Cafe which at 5000 feet offers incredible views over the lake and to the distant Alps.

Day 7: Friday 29th June

Today is an official rest day were you are able to put together your own itinerary.

Day 8: Saturday 30th June - 186 Miles

Following a short Autoroute section we turn north and head along the banks of Lake D'Iseo. Taking only rural roads we enter the twisty Delle Orobie Bergamasche national park. Continuing further north though the park we first reach the serene shores of Lake Como before finally arriving at our hotel overlooking the beautiful Lake Lugano. The hotel has been run by the same family since 1910 and is located in a small village nestled along the northern shore of the lake. The hotel permeates an old style charm with a pergola covered restaurant positioned directly on the lake.

Day 9: Sunday 1st July - 175 Miles

Unfortunately we can only spend one night at this hotel as today we leave the lakes behind and turn westward towards Switzerland and France. En-route we cross the Simplon Pass which over the years has been used by smugglers and mercenaries and even Napoleon who used the pass to transport his cannons and artillery.  Surrounded by the peaks of the French Alps we wind our way through spectacular scenery and sweeping roads before arriving at Chamonix Mont Blanc. Located in the shadow of Mont Blanc our hotel is equipped with swimming pool, sauna and an outdoor heated hot tub.

Day 10: Monday 2nd July - 290 Miles

Today’s route first takes us through the Rhone Alps towards Geneva and onward to the Franche Comté region which is acclaimed for its rolling fields, dense forests and of course the Jura Mountains. We are now in real biking country and our route continues through the sweeping roads of the Jura and Burgundy until finally entering the Champagne region of France. For our last night we have selected a hotel located in the centre of the medieval town of Troyes. With its multi-coloured rows of timber-framed houses and its maze of narrow streets and alleyways this surely is the perfect place to spend our last night. We so many places to visit and restaurants to try we have left tonight free for you to explore this wonderful old city.

Day 11: Tuesday 3rd July

Mileage: 250 to Calais - 260 to Zeebrugge

Following breakfast we take a leisurely route through the Champagne vineyards before joining the motorway system back to the Euro tunnel at Calais or the ferry at Zeebrugge.

Although this could be classed as a new tour we have been touring and visiting Austria and Lake Garda for years. However this is the first time we have put these two fabulous destinations together in one tour. Austria is always at the top of every bikers list and Lake Garda is one of our favourite places in Europe.

Your tour guides, Tom & Susan, will be taking the Hull to Zeebrugge crossing the night before the tour (22nd June) and meeting the group at the hotel on the first night. If you would prefer to take this crossing rather than the Euro tunnel then please contact us for availability and pricing.

No motorcyclist likes travelling long distances on the motorway but in a change to our normal schedule we have decided to make the first day’s mileage longer than usual in order to allow more time at our final destinations. We have been using this route for some time on our longer tours to Greece and the Balkans and everyone on those tours agree that it is not as difficult as it would first appear. The Autoroute system on the continent is far quieter and more relaxed than in the UK and therefore the miles pass by quicker than you can imagine.

Travelling as a larger group for long distances on the motorway can be tiring and frustrating. Therefore for the first day we request that everyone either travels alone or within smaller groups. By travelling in this way everyone should be able to pass more quickly through the various toll booths, fill with fuel only when needed and take breaks at their own convenience.

This tour does contain some reasonable high mileage days on the Autoroute system and some challenging roads in the Mountains. Therefore this tour would be suitable for riders who are used to covering long distances and understands and accepts the above. Although some of the days are quite long we stop at two of the destinations for three nights so there is ample opportunity to rest and relax along the way if required.

Just a quick line to thank you both for my recent tour. The accommodation and food were way above my expectations and made each day that bit more pleasant after some great riding and scenery. Thank you for the experience and hopefully see you both soon.
